Slip surface

I wish there is more time. Getting me out of the studio and cutting my "time" short is a bad idea. It is unfulfilling. I'm still hungry for clay.

Only got one work done today. This bowl is in a form I want and is covered with a orange underglaze, a thick porcelain slip and a lovely black slip. Oil spots appear when the black slip is thick enough.

Quiet Movement

I am very happy with the results. These are works I made from 2 different studios but I guess you can now sense my "scent" from the works.

The movement of things fascinates me a great deal. It captures an emotion that I can't put into words.

Hope you enjoy my pots and Merry Christmas!

Letting Clay Fall

This weekend, I was doing this free cutting-form on wheel.  The steps are easy.  First throw a very thick wall cylinder, slice the outer wall randomly with any tools that are slightly sharp, and then stretch it outward to soften the hardness but without smudging the marks/patterns.

The biggest challenge for me is the stretching part. Pushing outward with a single hand is very difficult to keep it steady.  I was taught a trick which is to hold my left thumb with my right hand while pushing outward and upward.  It helps quite a bit.

Here is a video featuring Lisa Hammond. In this video, you will see her throwing a pot and cutting it. This is sort of what I did today. I kind of like it.

Oh, do go over to Mud Colony to check out my potter friends.

Wind

The wind is still in my system. These pots are purely spiritual to me. They are my favorite things to make. I lose myself in them.

Getting bigger and better

I threw the biggest bowl ever today. 21cm diameter x 7cm height. That's huge for me. I am no where near perfection and am still honing my skills. But I'm fairly proud of myself. This is gonna be an awesome salad bowl with my favorite hues of blue.

How to alter form

I want to show you how I alter form to materialize my ideas of wind.  The pictures below would do a much better job than words. It is not quit there yet but I'm trying. But I shouldn't try too hard. It should come from my heart then whatever I feel should flow to my hands.

Oh, don't forget to step by Mud Colony on your way out. Cheers!
